Schools get more than 2,000 pages of instructions, regulations and circulars from Whitehall every year. Damaging rules side with the troublemaker, not the teacher, when there is a problem with discipline in the classroom. Tens of thousands of parents cannot get their child into the school they want, while the Government forbids popular schools expanding.
No wonder there is such a cry for change.
On this website you will hear teachers, parents and governors explain how frustrating things are today. You will find out, too, that there is a better way.
Conservatives will set schools and teachers free. We will scrap rules and red tape, letting schools run themselves and allowing teachers to do their job their own way. We will ensure a much tougher environment for discipline. We will positively encourage good schools to grow, and hundreds of excellent new schools to spring up.
The Right to Choose will mean higher standards across the board.
Tim Collins MP
Conservative Education Spokesman
